The Dalai Lama turns 75 tomorrow. His leadership for non violence and justice is a rare blessing. But the Dalai Lama's message needs a big public jolt of support in these challenging times and a global wave of respect will show the Chinese government that the eyes of the world are on Tibet. Avaaz is organising a global tribute that will be delivered personally to the Dalai Lama. Click here to sign and then send a personal message -- these will be posted on a "wall of warm wishes" outside the Temple in Dharamsala, India and the numbers of signers will be broadcast daily by radio across the region.
Share this with everyone -- let's make his birthday last as long as we keep signing.
The spiritual leader of Tibet has spent over 50 years in exile, China is ignoring him, dialogue for an genuinely autonomous Tibet is in stalemate and violent repression continues in his homeland. But the Dalai Lama continues to preach peace and compassion and he represents the best hope for a just and peaceful outcome in Tibet. Since the 2008 bloody crackdown on Tibetans, the Avaaz community has been supporting radio stations, bloggers, and censorship avoidance technologies to ensure information comes in and out of closed Tibet. We will work with these partners to ensure this massive tribute and our birthday messages of hope, gratitude and encouragement from around the world reach hundreds of thousands of Tibetans and Chinese.
Let's let them know how much the world is inspired by the Dalai Lama's life:
The Dalai Lama's birthday is a crucial day of action for Tibetans reasserting their identity. Our voices ringing in solidarity and celebration can give a fresh wave of energy to the movement the Dalai Lama has been building for his whole life. Let's honour him together and demonstrate to those who oppose his message that the world is united in hope for a more harmonious and fair world.

The Dalai Lama said 'Today, more than ever before, life must be characterized by a sense of universal responsibility, not only nation to nation and human to human, but also human to other forms of life.' Our community is inspired by this same belief in universality and a fierce determination and hope for a better world.
